The Pre-Primary 1 Parents Must-Have:

The P1 Parents’ Survival Guide to Primary School

Being a mother of a Primary (Elementary) school student and having been a teacher in a Primary (Elementary) school in Singapore, I will like to share with you about how you can prepare your child in the years before your child enter primary school. In this series of tips, I will be writing about some areas that you should look into years before your child enters primary school.

Survival Tip 3: Physical and aesthetics’ ability.

Be aware of the physical and aesthetics milestones your child has developed during preschool days besides the academic ones (listed in Tip 1 & 2).

Your child should have developed skills on the areas such as:
  • physical coordination (gross motor skills)
  • outdoor play
  • imaginative and creative appreciation of music
  • writing and drawing skills (fine motor skills)
  • problem solving skills.

Bring your child to the outdoors often. Let him play at the playground. Bring him to the swimming pool. Encourage him to learn how to cycle a two-wheel bike. Engaging in various activities will help your child to develop gross motor skills.

Encourage your child to draw, colour and paint. Let him create books of drawings and writings. What he has drawn does not have to be prefect. Do not worry about the mistake he made but praised him for the effort and creativity.

By doing the above, your child’s physical and aesthetics ability will be developed.
