Tuesday, May 12, 2015When creating a bedroom for a teenager, you want a combination of function and style. You will also want to consider furniture that offers storage, such as a bookshelf where colorful canvas bins can be placed to contain small objects, a bed that has storage space underneath with pull out drawers, or a dorm-style loft bed with a study area underneath. Before choosing any furniture items, examine the space and get an idea of how you want the room to be arranged. The best thing to do is to allow your teenager to help with the planning of the bedroom. There are several styles of teenage bedroom furniture available either individually or in bedroom sets. If you have a tight budget to work with, you may consider selecting one or two actual pieces and then filling the rest of the room with fun alternatives such as colorful storage bins, novelty lamps, and overstuffed pillows or beanbags for extra seating. Keep in mind that the design of a teenager’s bedroom is often a reflection of the teen’s personality.
A studious teenager may want an organized study area as the main focus of the room. You can do this by using a loft style bed with a desk underneath which gives the room a dormitory feel. You may even wish to put a small bookshelf in your teenager’s room to organize their books, music or movie collections. Or you may want a computer armoire that can be closed when not in use. The armoire can hold either a small computer or a small television. Some teenagers may need space in their bedrooms for small entertainment centers that will hold their televisions and video games.
Teenage bedrooms can be extremely messy. You will want to incorporate plenty of storage space into the bedroom. This can be done by organizing an existing closet space, or by purchasing a bed that has drawers and storage beneath the bed. If your teenager likes more modern or contemporary bedroom furniture, you can choose to purchase a platform bed that sits on a drawer unit. You can also create extra storage with boldly colored storage cubes or ottomans.
